The provincial government of Ontario proclaimed the third Monday of each February ‘Family Day’ in Ontario in 2008. As a result, most businesses, provincial government offices, private offices and retailers are closed on February 20, 2012. Here’s a quick look at what’s open and closed on Family Day in Toronto. If you’re looking for things to do on Family Day, many Toronto attractions are offering special Family Day events.

What’s Closed on Family Day

  1. LCBO
  2. Beer stores
  3. Banks
  4. Grocery stores
  5. Provincial government offices
  6. Grocery stores
  7. Shopping malls that have not been designated “tourist attractions”
  8. Public libraries

What’s Open on Family Day

  1. Federal government offices including Canada Post (unless operating in a retail store e.g. Shoppers Drug Mart)
  2. Restaurants
  3. Royal Ontario Museum
  4. Ontario Science Centre
  5. Toronto Zoo
  6. Art Gallery of Ontario (20% discount on family pass on Family Day)
  7. Hockey Hall of Fame
  8. Harbourfront
  9. Shopping malls designated “tourist attractions” including Toronto Eaton Centre, Square One, Vaughan Mills, Woodbine Centre and Pacific Mall
