During the holiday season when I was busy picking up last minute gifts, baking Christmas cookies and wrapping presents, I was approached by Walmart.ca to try their new Walmart.ca Grocery PickUp service at Penguin locations in Toronto! What a great time saver! Here’s how it works: You go online at Walmart.ca or on the Walmart mobile app and click on Grocery PickUp. You then select the items you want to purchase, choose a date/time slot and pickup location that is convenient for you and then you pay with your credit card. There is a $3-$5 service fee that is added to your total and your grocery order has to be a minimum of $50. You choose the Penguin/UPS Pick Up location nearest you to pick up your groceries. The program operates seven days a week during Penguin/UPS PickUp locations’ operating hours. After that, all you have to do is drive to the Penguin PickUp location you have chosen on the date and time you have preselected and your groceries will be ready for you!
Penguin PickUp in Leslieville
Since I live in Leslieville, it was very convenient for me to choose the Penguin PickUp location at 629 Eastern Avenue in Toronto, which was just a five minute drive from my home. It was a particularly frigid day when we ventured out to pick up my Walmart.ca grocery order, so I really appreciated that once we arrived at the Penguin PickUp, the Penguin employee came out to my car, asked to see my photo ID, then proceeded to carry my groceries and place them in my vehicle. After I signed the receipt, we were done. The process took less than four minutes!

Walmart.ca Grocery Delivery to Specific Toronto Condos
If you live in the following Toronto condos, you can receive delivery of your Walmart groceries right at your door on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a $10 delivery charge:
Aura Condo, 386 Yonge Street
Iceboat Terrace Condos, 15 Iceboat Terrace and 21 Iceboat Terrace
The Met Condos, 21 Carlton Street and 25 Carlton Street
Once we were back home, I checked all of my grocery bags to 1) make sure that what I had ordered was indeed in the bags and 2) check the quality of the items. There is an option that you can select when placing your order for Walmart to substitute items should the items you choose not be in stock; however, I did not choose this option because I didn’t want substitutions. I was very pleased to see that I had received all of the items I had ordered online. If I wasn’t satisfied with the items, Walmart offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back.
I then examined the freshness of produce, meat and seafood and looked at expiry dates. My two Striploin steaks looked fresh and had expiry dates of Dec. 24, 2016, which was six days away, so that was great. My Caesar Salad Kit had an expiry date of December 29, 2016, which was 11 days away. Fantastic! My Clementine oranges were all firm…not one mushy one in the bag! My box of fresh white mushrooms were in pristine condition…I couldn’t have chosen better if I had handpicked the mushrooms myself at the grocery store.
Look at the deal I got at Walmart.ca on Royale Original 2-ply Bathroom Tissue. I paid $7.93 for 24 double rolls!
Other great deals at Walmart.ca included 1 kg of Kraft Crunchy Peanut Butter for $3.97, a gorgeous 454 g Our Finest Shrimp Ring with seafood sauce for $10, and striploin steaks for less than $10 each.
I was able to create this steak dinner from the Fresh Market Angus Beef Striploin, Fresh Express Caesar Salad Kit and Windmill Farms Organic Whole White Mushrooms:
I also purchased .70 kg package of fresh Atlantic salmon for $14.74! The great part about shopping online at Walmart.ca is you get the same low prices as you do when shopping in the store.
Here is how I prepared the Atlantic salmon, which tasted delicious. It’s so easy.
Recipe: Baked Salmon in Parchment Paper
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees C.
- Rinse and pat dry filet of salmon.
- Place salmon on large enough piece of parchment paper. (You are going to be wrapping the fish in the parchment paper into a packet.)
- Drizzle 3 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil on salmon.
- Grind some fresh black pepper on salmon.
- Sprinkle 1 Tablespoon of dried Basil on salmon.
- Sprinkle 4 Tablespoons of green onion on salmon.
- Top salmon with 2 lemon slices.
- Wrap and fold parchment paper into a small packet.
- Place in uncovered casserole dish and bake for 30 minutes.
I was very pleased with my experience of shopping online using Walmart.ca’s Grocery PickUp. The quality of food was better than I expected, the prices were very competitive and you can’t beat the convenience. For a $3-$5 service fee, using Walmart.ca’s Grocery PickUp is worth it when you consider the great time savings! You can skip driving to Walmart, finding a parking space, spending 20-25 minutes shopping and then another 10 minutes in line, spending 5 minutes to get back to your car and packing your groceries in the trunk and then driving home from Walmart. Plus, you can shop any time you want! I will definitely use Walmart.ca’s Grocery PickUp again.
