I’m at the age where my face can use all the help it can get to look young. First of all, I’ve had rosacea for most of my adult life, so my cheeks are usually some shade of pink or red. I am also developing those nasty lines at the side of my mouth and my skin has definitely lost elasticity. So when Cosmetic Laser Specialist Safaa Elbanna approached me about having a complimentary laser skin rejuvenation session to treat my rosacea, as well as firm up my face, I was enthusiastic about the treatment. (We’re giving away a complimentary OxyFacial with Safaa Elbanna…see giveaway details below.)

Safaa has 20 years’ experience working as a dermatologist in the Middle East and has recently obtained her Homeopathy Diploma from the College of Homeopaths of Ontario to augment her understanding of the nature of skin conditions. Safaa has also received her certificate from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and is a registered personal trainer with Canfitpro.

I visited Safaa’s office in North York in early October to experience the laser skin rejuvenation treatment. Safaa’s office is located at 251 Consumers Road at Sheppard Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue.

Upon arrival, Safaa greeted me and we went to her treatment room. We discussed problems I had with my skin and what to expect with laser treatment. I then made myself comfortable on a reclining chair.

First, Safaa cleansed my skin with a gentle cleanser before performing the skin resurfacing treatment on my rosacea. Using the Fontana aesthetic laser system, she worked on the visible capillaries on my cheek. The laser system blew cool air on my cheeks to reduce any pain. It was a relatively painless procedure – it felt like she was pricking a needle gently into my skin.

The next stage involved Safaa using the laser system to heat my skin in order to solidify the collagen underneath. As we age, the collagen in our skin becomes like an elastic. Heating the skin causes the looser collagen to solidify, resulting in firmer skin. My face became quite warm, but again, it was tolerable and after a while, I didn’t notice the heat as much.

The treatment I had was tailored to my skin. Each person’s skin is different, thus treatment will vary based on what is needed.

Once Safaa was finished using the laser system, she applied some firming lotion and sunblock to my face. I then had a chance to look at my face in the mirror. My face definitely looked refreshed and felt firmer and smoother to the touch. When I got home, I noticed my cheeks weren’t as red as they normally are. I will be having a follow-up treatment with Safaa for more noticeable results.

  1. I’ve had microdermabrasion and shouldn’t have. I shouldn’t have. It wasn’t good for my rosacea. I’d love to try the skin rejuvenation. I have had a laser type treatment once before & it was amazing for dealing with my redness.

  2. no I haven’t but it sounds wonderful and I certainly could use one. I would love to meet Safaa Elbanna and discuss what she can do for my aging skin
