Prince left us too soon when he passed away on April 21, 2016 at the age of 57. To honour the legendary performer, Choir! Choir! Choir! is inviting the people of Toronto to perform one of Prince’s most famous songs, “When Doves Cry,” in three-part harmony at Toronto’s historic Massey Hall on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 8 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Regent Park School of Music, a non-profit community music school that provides music education to underprivileged youth in Regent Park and other areas of the City of Toronto, and Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall’s Share the Music education and outreach program.
Prince lived in Toronto during the early 2000s and performed two concerts at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in March 2016.
“When we heard the news about Prince, we were shocked and upset,” said Nobu Adilman, co-founder of C!C!C! “Like most people, we wanted to get together and share our love for his music. The outreach from the community was instant as it was overwhelming – it was obvious people were mourning and wanted to come together.”
Choir! Choir! Choir! performed a two night musical tribute to the late David Bowie at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where the group engaged thousands of people in singing a finale of “Space Oddity.” The show’s producers invited Choir! Choir! Choir! to perform after C!C!C!’s tribute to the music of David Bowie at The AGO went viral online. View the David Bowie tribute at the AGO video here.
Tickets for the “When Doves Cry” performance are $19.99 and can be purchased online. This exciting Toronto event will surely sell out.
